There is a saying 'The eyes are the windows to the soul'. Expression of the eye can indeed reveal many things. One of them, the eyes can be a clue to find out whether someone is telling a lie or the truth.
Using this concept, a team of psychologists in Utah, USA, work carried out new research polygraph (lie detection), which relies on eye tracking technology to detect lies.
As quoted from page Aol.com, the proposed device will measure eye movements that accompany the response to these questions to determine whether they lied or not.
Researchers at the University of Utah said, the technology is more effective because the eyes reveal a person's cognitive reaction to tell the truth and a lie is not just an emotional reaction such as traditional poligraph.
The team psychologist John Kircher, David Raskin and colleagues studied a group of subjects who answered a series of true and false questions via computer.
There is a theory suggests, requires more effort to lie than tell the truth. Through this theory, the researchers looked for indications that lie detector show this new tool. The result, someone who is lying will work hard to answer questions. Usually, when answering questions, liars will widen the eyes, and take longer to find an answer.
Often more rapid eye movement in a matter of minutes, so advanced measurement methods and data necessary to determine statistical significance, according to researchers.
"We get great results from our experiments," Kircher said in a summary of findings. "This tool is better than the polygraph, and we are still in the early stages of an innovative new method for determining whether someone is trying to trick you or not."
According to the study chairman, Gerald Sanders, eye tracking method for detecting lies has great potential. This method of lie detection has been studied over the past three decades, and until now will continue to be developed until the results are perfect.
